Frequently Asked Questions

Find answers to common questions about ScamFraud.info

What is ScamFraud.info?

ScamFraud.info is a free, community-powered platform that helps people identify potential scams online. Users can check and report domains, URLs, email addresses, bank accounts (IBANs), cryptocurrency wallets, and phone numbers.

How does the voting system work?

When you encounter an asset (like a website or email), you can vote whether it's 'Safe' or 'Scam' based on your experience. The trust badge is determined by the percentage of votes: >70% positive = Safe, >70% negative = Scam, otherwise = Neutral.

Is ScamFraud.info free to use?

Yes! ScamFraud.info is completely free. You can check any asset, vote, and leave comments without creating an account or paying anything.

Do I need to create an account?

No account is required. Our system uses anonymous voting with IP-based rate limiting to prevent abuse while maintaining user privacy.

How do you prevent fake votes?

We implement IP-based rate limiting to prevent vote manipulation. Each IP address can only vote once per asset. We also integrate data from trusted sources like PhishStats to automatically flag known phishing sites.

What should I do if I find a scam?

If you encounter a scam, search for it on ScamFraud.info and vote 'Scam'. Leave a detailed comment describing your experience to help others. You should also report serious fraud to your local authorities and relevant regulatory bodies.

Can I report an asset that isn't in your database?

Yes! Simply search for the asset and our system will automatically create a new entry if it doesn't exist. You can then vote and comment on it.

How accurate are the trust scores?

Trust scores are based on community votes and automated feeds from security databases. While we strive for accuracy, we recommend always using multiple sources for verification. We provide links to external checkers like VirusTotal, urlscan.io, and Google Safe Browsing.

What types of assets can I check?

You can check: domains (example.com), full URLs (https://example.com/page), email addresses, IBANs (bank account numbers), cryptocurrency wallet addresses (Bitcoin, Ethereum, etc.), and phone numbers.

How is my privacy protected?

We only store hashed versions of IP addresses for rate limiting purposes. We don't require accounts, don't track personal information, and don't sell data to third parties.

Can I request removal of my asset listing?

If you believe your legitimate asset has been incorrectly flagged, please contact us with evidence of legitimacy. We review all requests carefully.

Where does your data come from?

Our data comes from three sources: community reports and votes, automated imports from trusted security feeds like PhishStats.info, and user-submitted comments.
